Returning from parental leave
Returning to Work
You must give 4 weeks’ written notice of your intention to return to work. You can return to work on an earlier date than you indicated if you advise your manager in writing, at least 4 weeks prior, of your wish to do this.
You should consider your role as a caregiver to a child(ren) and the effect this will have on your work, life and family balance well in advance of your intention to return to work.
Options you may have to support your return to work are as follows:
- Working in a full time or part time basis following a period of paid or unpaid maternity leave. You are able to return to work part time up to the compulsory school age of your child;
- You could discuss options for flexible hours arrangements; job share, telecommuting, temporary change of role, working from home or purchased and or proportionate leave arrangements.
- A Carers Room is available on level 10 in Central Office (Brisbane) which can be an alternative to taking leave in emergency situations to care for a dependant who is recovering from a non-contagious illness/injury. It is also a comfortable and private facility for use by nursing mothers. For room bookings please contact (07) 3227 8793.
You need to give at least 4 weeks notice of your request to return to work part-time to enable your manager to accommodate your request. Discuss these options with your colleagues, manager or staff at the Workforce Development Unit on (07) 3227 7298 or e-mail to workforce.development@epa.qld.gov.au for further information.
