Registration certificates
All operators of environmentally relevant activities (other than mining or petroleum
activities) — known as chapter 4 activities — must be ‘registered
operators’.
This means operators of all level 1 and level 2 environmentally relevant activities
(ERAs). In addition all operators must have either:
- A development approval for the activity; or
- Operate under a code of environmental compliance.
Operators apply to the administering authority to be registered. An application
for registration must be submitted with the prescribed fee. Registration authorises
the registered operator to carry out the activities at the place[s] stated in
the certificate.
Registration certificates may be issued for multiple activities and sites where
it is considered that the activities are part of a ‘single integrated
operation’. An annual fee for registration applies for level 1 ERAs.
