Searches / notifications
A joint search of the Search Environmental Management and Contaminated Land Registers (EMR/CLR) usually forms part of the normal conveyancing process. Both Registers are automatically searched when you do the one search of the EMR/CLR database. You may also require a search if you are considering developing or changing the use of a piece of land. The EMR/CLR is a public register and anyone can undertake a search of any parcel of land for the prescribed fee.
When undertaking a search, you will need to provide:
- the Lot number and Registered Plan numbers (including prefix and numbers) of the land (available from the Title Deed or rates notice); or
- the property location and address; and
- a search fee of $37.70 per lot (Internet) or $44.30 per lot (non-Internet). (Make cheques payable to Smart Service Queensland).
Schedule 6 Part 2 of the Environmental Protection Regulation 1998 lists the fees associated with Contaminated Land payable in Australian dollars.
To lodge and pay for a search, you can choose from the following methods:
For $37.70 per lot on plan:
- Website at www.qld.gov.au (look under Services Online) or click here [link to www.smartservice.qld.gov.au/AQ], pay by credit card online and the search result will be emailed back to you, usually within ten minutes.
For $44.30 per lot on plan:
- Lodge searches on the search form in person at the EPA Customer Service Centre, Ground Floor, 160 Ann Street, Brisbane. The result is available for collection within five (5) working days.
- Mail a search request form to Smart Service Queensland (Contaminated Land Search, PO Box 10817, Brisbane Adelaide Street, Queensland 4001) with a cheque for the correct amount and the result will be mailed back within ten (10) working days.
- Fax a search request form to Smart Service Queensland with a credit card form to 1300 300 768 and the result can be faxed back within one (1) working day.

You can also search on-line via CITEC CONFIRM at www.confirm.com.au, or use their CITEC Confirm Express Service by phone/facsimile/e mail/counter service, payable by credit card or invoiced account.
