Nominate a place for entry in the Register
General information
Under Section 35 of the Queensland Heritage Act 1992 any person can apply to nominate a place for entry in the Queensland Heritage Register. The Register is a list of places or buildings of cultural heritage significance in Queensland. It gives community recognition to the value and importance of significant cultural heritage places.Once a place is entered in the Register, anyone wanting to alter it must apply to the Queensland Heritage Council for approval. The aim is to protect significant cultural heritage places, so that they are conserved for future generations.

The Queensland Heritage Council is an independent body responsible for determining whether a place should be entered in the Register. The Environmental Protection Agency's Cultural Heritage Branch employs architects, historians, and expert conservationists to give advice on conservation of registered properties.Once a nomination is received, a detailed registration process begins.

Forms and fees
To nominate a place for entry in the Register you must lodge a completed application form for consideration by the Queensland Heritage Council who are responsible for maintaining the Register.
