Occupation permits for State forests

General information

Occupation permits may only be granted where the chief executive is satisfied that the proposed use/s of the land are consistent with the requirements of the relevant legislation and policy.

Occupation permits have been used to authorise infrastructure and facilities including dams, pipelines, storage areas, pump sites, education facilities, and communications facilities on State forest.

A number of criteria are considered, including possible impacts on:

Pre-lodgement service

If you are considering applying for an occupation permit contact the local QPWS office to discuss the proposal before making formal application.

Permits and approvals

Section 35(1)(a) of the Forestry Act 1959 provides for the chief executive of the EPA or delegate to grant permits to occupy land within a State forest or forest reserve. These are called occupation permits. Occupation permits cannot be granted over land designated as timber reserve.

Forms and fees

Occupation permits may be granted for a fixed term up to seven years. The Agency may issue a new permit following expiry of a permit, after a reassessment of the occupancy. Different fees apply for different uses authorised under occupation permits.

Contact your local QPWS office for specific information about fees for various uses under occupation permits.
