Lyngbya Management Strategy

Lyngbya majuscula (Lyngbya) is a naturally occurring, filamentous, blue-green algae that has occurred in bloom proportions in Moreton Bay coastal waters.

In response State and Local Government, industry, scientific and community groups have jointly formed a Steering Committee, which is advised by an independent

Scientific Expert Panel, to identify causes of Lyngbya blooms, implement mitigation and control measures and develop public and stakeholder communications.

Through a cooperative partnership, the Steering Committee has coordinated a range of mitigation works, conducted a major scientific research program and implemented stakeholder communications programs. The Lyngbya Management Strategy has been developed by the Steering Committee to provide a management framework to coordinate the implementation of the agreed management actions and commence addressing the issues associated with outbreaks of Lyngbya in SEQ coastal waters.
