Lyngbya updates
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is coordinating the response by State and local government and key stakeholders to the Lyngbya majuscula outbreak in Moreton Bay, Deception Bay and Pumicestone Passage.The EPA has established a Lyngbya Steering Committee of key stakeholders to identify causes and implement effective management actions to reduce the risk of future Lyngbya blooms. The committee includes representatives from State and local governments (EPA and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, departments of Primary Industries (Fisheries), Natural Resources and Queensland Health, the Brisbane, Redcliffe and Caboolture councils) and other industry, scientific and community organisations, including the Queensland Commercial Fishing Organisation (QCFO), Pumicestone Passage Catchment Coordinating Committee and the University of Queensland.
The Steering Committee is being advised by the Scientific Expert Panel of the SE Qld Regional Water Quality Management Strategy, chaired by Professor Paul Greenfield of University of Queensland.
