Monitoring update

The following report covers inspections of the Cyanobacterium, Lyngbya majuscula in areas of Moreton Bay by officers of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, local Councils and other observers. The inspections are to determine and report any changes in the coverage and density of Lyngbya. Lyngbya surveys consist of examining randomly selected sites for Lyngbya growth along set transects from a small boat and shore based coastline inspections for deposited Lyngbya.

Central Moreton Bay

The survey conducted over Moreton and Amity Banks on the 4 th June 2008 found Lyngbya in nine of the thirty five locations sampled. In one of these locations Lyngbya coverage was dense. A small amount of Lyngbya was also found during sampling of Shark Spit on the 23 rd May 2008. Please note the first map provided.


Eastern Banks May/June 2008

Northern Moreton Bay

Light to medium Lyngbya coverage was found widely distributed throughout sampling locations in Deception Bay, on both the 10 th May and 12 June 2008. Please note the second map.
