Regional Nature Conservation Strategy

The Regional Nature Conservation Strategy for South East Queensland 2003-2008 has been developed in collaboration with key regional stakeholders under the SEQ 2001 Regional Framework for Growth Management. The Strategy aims to identify and conserve the region’s very high biodiversity values, increase levels of awareness and commitment and involve all stakeholders in the conservation and management of the region's biodiversity.

The Strategy’s biodiversity assessment methodology provides criteria and rules to help identify and assess biodiversity values and areas of nature conservation significance in South East Queensland. Biodiversity management decision-support tools for the conservation and management of biodiversity values are provided to assist agencies in the development and implementation of plans, strategies and planning schemes and to guide land-managers and development proponents in the planning and management of change or intensification of land-use. A wide range of actions for conserving, managing and rehabilitating biodiversity that are to be implemented by all sectors and levels of the community are also included in the Strategy.
