About the Herbarium
The Queensland Herbarium, part of the Environmental Protection Agency, is the centre for information and research on Queensland plants and plant communities. It is responsible for discovering, describing, monitoring, modelling, surveying, naming and classifying Queenslands plant and ecosystem diversity. The history of the Queensland Herbarium is summarised in the attached document.
Visitor information
Opening Hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
The Queensland Herbarium is located in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha.
Tours of the Herbarium are available for groups by prior arrangement. These are most suitable for high school biology students, as well as university and TAFE students.
Public reference centre

Herbarium. Painted by artist Vince Byrne of Nature Works. The public reference centre has a specimen collection representative of most Queensland plants, and a selection of reference books. These resources are available to members of the public who wish to identify their own plant specimens, by prior appointment.
The Queensland Herbarium monthly lunchtime Seminar Series is open to the public. Seminars will be held in the second week of each month in the FM Bailey Conference Room, Queensland Herbarium, Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha between 12.00 - 1.00 pm.
