Brooyar State Forest - Camping information
Camping in Brooyar State Forest
Queensland's best hoop pine plantations grow in the hills of Brooyar State Forest west of Gympie. Features of this area include a variety of forest types, panoramic views from high cliff-top lookouts and cool rainforest creeks.
Camp with a tent, trailer or van in this open grassy area alongside the trickling, cool Glastonbury Creek fringed by shady rainforest trees.
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite.
Park-specific conditions
- Bookings are required prior to arrival.
- Dogs on leashes are allowed overnight.
- Preferably bring a fuel stove. Firewood is not supplied. If you plan to use the fire rings or barbecues bring your own firewood (untreated mill off-cuts). Collecting firewood from the forest is illegal.
Glastonbury Creek camping area
Campground features: Open grassy area surrounded by hills and cliffs. Main activities include exploring the surrounding forest on foot and by vehicle, abseiling nearby, relaxing, watching birds and wildlife.
Location: On the south-east edge of Brooyar State Forest alongside Glastonbury Creek. Approaching from the south, the campground is on the right just past the entrance. From the north it is on the left, 2km past the entrance.
Access: The campground can be reached by conventional vehicles, trailers, caravans and buses. Peterson Road, 20km west of Gympie, provides the best access for caravans.
Number of sites: Not numbered. Maximum camping area capacity is 120 people.
Campsites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car; caravans; camper trailers; small and large motorhomes and large groups.
Campsite surface: Grass.
Facilities: Fire rings, composting toilets and chlorinated creek water. The adjacent day-use area has wood barbecues and picnic tables.
Open fires: Allowed (except when fire bans or prohibitions apply) in fire rings only, but fuel stoves are recommended.
Generators: Not permitted.
Essentials to bring: Drinking water, a fuel stove for cooking, rubbish bags (bins are not provided), insect repellent and sunscreen. If you wish to use the barbecues and fire rings bring your own firewood (untreated mill off-cuts).
