Camping in Byfield National Park and Conservation Park

Byfield's parks and forests offer a range of camping experiences, from sites with facilities to beach and secluded bush camping. There are 3 camping areas in Byfield national and conservation parks. The Five Rocks visitor area, in Byfield Conservation Park, is the only campground with facilities. Camping is not permitted at Three Rivers Beach, the park's Sandy Point section or Corio Bay.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. Obtain your permit before setting up camp and attach it to your tent in a visible position.

Park-specific conditions

Sand-driving experience recommended. Use defined tracks only. Do not disturb vegetation or drive over sand dunes.

Five Rocks visitor area

Campground Features: Surrounded by coastal heath and within walking distance of Five Rocks Beach. Explore rugged headlands or fish, swim and surf.

Location: Five Rocks visitor area is 27km east from the Waterpark Creek crossing and is accessed via Byfield National Park.

Access: The campground can be reached by 4WD only. It is accessible for camper trailers, track and weather conditions permitting.

Number of sites: 12 numbered sites available in defined areas.

Campsites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car — 5 sites are suitable for camper trailers.

Camp surface: Pallets and camping pads are provided, or sand/dirt for camper trailers.

Facilities: Cold showers, composting toilets, picnic tables, water (treat before drinking).

Open fires: Prohibited, but gas or fuel stoves are recommended.

Generators: Not permitted.

Essentials to bring: Insect repellent, sunscreen, first-aid kit, sturdy rubbish bags, drinking water and sufficient fuel for your vehicle. Read more about things to know before you go.

Bookings: Self-registration at the campsite, fees apply.

Mobile phone coverage: Mobile coverage is poor and unreliable, consider taking a satellite phone.

Nine Mile Beach camping area

Campground features: Campsites nestled behind foredunes. Easy access to the beach for swimming, fishing or walking.

Location: Beach camping is permitted within the 4.5km beach camping zone south of Freshwater Creek. Camping elsewhere on Nine Mile or Three Rivers beaches is prohibited and fines apply.

Access: Nine Mile Beach can be accessed by 4WD only. Campsites are identified by blue beach markers and camping elsewhere is prohibited. Access with camper trailers is possible but not recommended. Use defined tracks only and do not clear existing vegetation.

Number of sites: Open area without separately defined sites.

Campsites are suitable for: tent camping beside your 4WD.

Campsite surface: All campsites are on sand.

Facilities: There are no facilities at Nine Mile Beach. The nearest facilities are at the Five Rocks visitor area.

Open fires: Prohibited, but gas or fuel stoves are recommended.

Generators: Not permitted.

Essentials to bring: Drinking water, first-aid kit, sturdy rubbish bags, sun protection and insect repellent. Portable chemical toilets are preferred.

Bookings: Book online or by phone on 13 13 04. You may also obtain your camping permit from the self-registration stations at Five Rocks or Nine Mile Beach. This option is not available during school holidays. Bookings can also be made in person at EPA Rockhampton.

Waterpark Point (Scouts camp) camping area

Camp features: Small secluded beach campsite with views over Corio Bay and Sandy Point.

Location: On the northern side of Corio Bay, along Waterpark Point.

Access: Boat access only.

Number of sites: 1 site only, suitable for up to 20 people.

Campsites are suitable for: tent camping only.

Campsite surface: Sand.

Facilities: No facilities available.

Open fires: Prohibited, but gas and fuel stoves are recommended.

Generators: Not permitted.

Essentials to bring: All food and water, first aid kit, insect repellent, sun protection and sturdy rubbish bags. Portable chemical toilets are preferred.

Bookings: Advance bookings only. Book online or by phone on 13 13 04. Bookings can also be made in person at EPA Rockhampton.

Mobile phone coverage: Mobile coverage is poor and unreliable, consider taking a satellite phone.
