Getting there

You can access Fraser Island from either Rainbow Beach township or Hervey Bay travelling by vehicle barge, passenger ferry, aircraft, commercial tour or private boat.

Dilli Village and Happy Valley are the main two start and finish points, however you can also access the Great Walk from the following locations.

Hook Point

(vehicle barge from Inskip Point/Rainbow Beach)

Disembark from barge and walk approximately 100m to the right to enter the high tide inland access track. The Fraser Island Great Walk interpretive shelter is on the left.

Manta Ray barge (Inskip Point to Hook Point)
Rainbow Venture barge (Inskip Point to Hook Point)

Wanggoolba Creek

(vehicle barge from River Heads)

Disembark from barge and walk approximately 2km along the main road to Bennett’s Creek firebreak, opposite Ungowa turnoff. The Fraser Island Great Walk interpretive shelter is on the left.

Fraser Venture barge (River Heads to Wonggoolba Creek)

Moon Point

(vehicle barge from Urangan Boat Harbour, next to Ampol Service station)

This entry point is not directly linked to the Great Walk and should only be used if you have already arranged to transfer to the eastern side of the island via another 4WD service.

Fraser Dawn barge (Urangan to Moon Point)

Kingfisher Bay

(passenger ferry from Urangan Boat Harbour, mainland terminal)

Disembark the Fast Cat and walk along the jetty. Then take the jetty road to the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village roundabout. Turn right and pass the tennis courts, store and petrol pumps. Continue up the driveway, crossing the Kingfisher Hill vehicle track. Follow this single-lane bitumen road to the right for approximately 100m to the Fraser Island Great Walk interpretive shelter.
