Renewable energy

In managing Queensland's protected areas and State forests, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) takes a holistic approach to environmental management. This broad approach aims to ensure that parks management has a minimal impact on the environment. As many national parks are located in remote areas they are off the electricity grid and must rely on diesel generators to provide power for park facilities and ranger stations. Unfortunately, there are a number of disadvantages to relying on diesel generators: they use non-renewable fuel, they are expensive to run, and they cause noise and air pollution. The QPWS has developed a Renewable Energy Program to progressively convert all remote, off-grid national parks to renewable energy power systems.
