The review process
The Marine Parks ( Moreton Bay) Zoning Plan 1997 expires on 1 September 2008 and must be reviewed before this date. The review process allows anyone to provide information about how they use and value the marine park.
The review is being conducted in three main stages:
- Stage 1 - Information-gathering and data analysis
We gathered more than 200 sets of information from a number of sources on the environmental, physical, social, cultural and economic characteristics of the marine park, including information from the diverse range of marine park users.
An independent Expert Advisory Panel also provided scientific advice to guide development of the draft zoning plan. These recommendations covered habitat types, scientific guiding principles and an analysis method (pdf - 69KB)
- Stage 2 – Formal public consultation
The draft zoning plan was open to public submissions for over three months. The submission period ended at 5pm on Friday 7 March 2008.
During this time the EPA: - held a series of public displays attracting over 800 people,
- received and responded to more than 300 emails, over 250 letters, and more than 1100 phone calls; and
- hosted over 30 individual meetings with different stakeholder groups.
- Stage 3 – Final zoning plan released
The final zoning plan is expected to be released in late 2008. This will be accompanied by an education process, so that people are aware of the new zoning arrangements before they head out to the marine park.
