About this site

Welcome to the website of the Environmental Protection Agency, which includes the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. We are the Queensland Government's lead agency for environmental and conservation management matters.

The site is based around seven key categories of information:

Environmental management

Covers air quality, water quality, contaminated land, mining, waste management, noise and nuisance, coastal management, sustainability, environmental planning and guidelines, and the state of the environment.

Parks and forests

Covers visiting and activities in parks and forests, marine parks, managing parks and forests, Great Walks of Queensland, World Heritage Areas, and booking campsites.

Nature conservation

Covers wildlife, biodiversity, habitats, plants, community and landholders' roles, and CyberRangers, an online nature club for kids.

Cultural heritage

Covers the Queensland Heritage Register, protecting cultural heritage, Queensland Heritage Council, owning heritage places, heritage tourism, and places and meanings.

Ecoaccess

This is an integrated system for handling environmental licences and permits in Queensland.

About the EPA

Covers organisational structure, legislation, strategic planning, public reporting, freedom of information, media statements, public consultation, careers and job vacancies, grants and funding, events, and contact information for agency and park offices.

Publications

This is a compilation of full text publications available on the website in PDF format.

Ways to find information

Search instructions:
Type a word or phrase into the 'Search' field at the top right hand corner of the screen and press the 'Go' button for a quick search of all documents on the Environmental Protection Agency's site. The search term used should be a standard search term, and should only use natural language words. The search engine does not support any search operators (such as *).
Site map:
Pages in the EPA website are organised into sub-categories, which may be nested to many levels due to the volume of information. The site map displays these nested categories, shown with + alongside. Clicking the + expands that category showing the levels below.
Site index:
The site index is a subject guide to the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency website.
Contact us:
Information listed here states the major areas of public contact by Central Office division, Region and District within the Environmental Protection Agency and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.
Drop-down menus:
At the top of the page are the drop-down menus. Click on a menu item to move to that area of the site. The drop-down menus are always available within the main area of the site, so there is no need to return to the home page in order to move to a different part of the site.
Sidebar navigation:
Pages in the EPA's website are organised into categories, which may be nested to many levels due to the volume of information. At any point in the site, the sidebar will display the categories below the current one (shown with + alongside). Clicking a category name will open it, to show the documents within, along with links to any categories further below. At the top of the sidebar is the name of the current category, plus a link to the category before it.
'Breadcrumb' navigation:
To determine your location in the web site, look at the text below the drop down menu bar in the upper-left area of the page. Listed here are the categories that lead to your current location. It's also possible to use this feature to navigate back through the categories - to move to a category, click its name.

Printing documents

Printing a page using the internet browser's print function will also print the menu bar and sidebar, which may take up unnecessary space on the printed page. However, there is a "printer friendly" view of documents that overcomes this problem. The 'Printable' link in the top menu opens the current page in a new window, without the title area and sidebar. This page may be printed using the browser's print function. Once printing is complete, the new window may be closed.

Converting PDFs to text

Some PDF documents can be converted easily into text by Adobe's PDF to text conversion tool. This tool allows people without the Adobe Acrobat program to open the document.

Alternative formats

Some publications are available by request in a range of alternative formats. For more information, contact the EPA from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday:
