Contribute Inventory Data

For any wetland inventory to be effective it is essential that the data within the inventory remains current.  New data needs to be added as it is collected and these data need to be integrated with the existing data.

The Department of Environment and Resource Management now has the ability to store data contributed to the wetland inventory database by external parties. Any individual or organisation that contributes data to the wetland inventory database remains the custodian or owner of their data. The Environmental Protection Agency provides the system for it to be stored and accessed.

Types of data that are of particular interest for inclusion in the database are:

  • On-ground inventory including data on geology, flora, fauna and water quality;
  • Meta data from any wetland study;
  • Regionally important data (this could be Waterwatch data, sub-catchment boundaries, bird surveys etc);
  • Wetland data from substantial research programs;
  • Mapping of wetlands at finer scales than are available through the Queensland Wetlands Mapping project

An on-line information capture system called Wetland Information Capture System (WIC) has been developed and is now being piloted by NRM regional bodies in Queensland.

This system will allow approved users to contribute data to the wetland inventory database and will also provide some basic validation checks for data uploaded from the field survey proformas.

Versions of the interactive data capture tools are available and if you are interested in contributing data to the wetland inventory pilot, or have any queries, please contact us for more information.
