Great Sandy Strait Ramsar Site
This page contains direct links to information specific to the Great Sandy Strait Ramsar site. Great Sandy Strait is a double-ended sand passage estuary and, because of the relatively flat nearshore, has large horizontal tide movements. Low water is one kilometre offshore in some areas. Patterned fens have been recorded along Great Sandy Strait and Cooloola. This type of wetland is the only one of its kind in the world.
Wetlands International provides the full Ramsar Information Sheet for the Great Sandy Strait (in PDF format), as well as the official map of the site and a useful tool for preparing reports on specific aspects of the site.
Great Sandy Strait is also listed in the Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia.
Although the official map of this site is found on the Wetlands International site, a digital version may viewed on WetlandMaps.
