WetlandInfo Background

Frasier Island Coastline - EPAThe Environmental Protection Agency, in partnership with the Australian Government (via the Queensland Wetlands Programme), has developed WetlandInfo Queensland (WetlandInfo), your first-stop shop for Queensland wetland information.

In 2003, the Australian and Queensland governments established the Queensland Wetlands Programme. The Programme is designed to develop and implement measures for the long-term conservation and management of wetlands in Queensland, with a focus on the Great Barrier Reef catchment consistent with actions outlined in the Reef Water Quality Protection Plan.

The Programme is being implemented over five years and is funded through the Great Barrier Reef Coastal Wetlands Protection Programme and the Queensland Natural Heritage Trust Wetlands Programme.

Further information on these programmes can be found on the Queensland Wetland Programme website or for more specific project information visit the project information sheets.

WetlandInfo consultation

A crucial component of the development of WetlandInfo has been to gain stakeholder input into the design and content of the website. To gather information, a number of consultation processes were used, including an online questionnaire and a series of workshops. Stakeholders included representatives from regional bodies, Federal, State and local government agencies, academics, peak industry and non goverment organisations.
